An Australian kayaker was recently rescued after alerting rescuers from his Apple Watch.

The man had been swept away by strong currents and was adrift about 4 kilometers from the coast.

The Apple Watch also practical in the kayak

The kayaker was therefore able to be rescued thanks to his connected watch, after being swept away. On June 18, after strong currents dragged him out to sea, about 4 kilometers from the shore, he was able to alert the emergency services and indicate his position thanks to the Apple Watch attached to his wrist.

His boat was drifting in the middle of the ocean, off the north coast of Sydney, and it was then impossible for him to row back to shore. Shortly after the watch called for help, the rescue helicopter was able to spot the bright orange kayak in the middle of nowhere.

This isn’t the first time Apple’s watch has proven useful in helping save the lives of its users who find themselves in dangerous situations. Earlier, in November 2021, a cyclist was able to call the emergency services after being hit by a car while on his bike. Last February, a man was able to receive medical assistance after suffering a traumatic brain injury from a fall from a bicycle.
