The QD OLED has been known since 2019 by specialists in the field, there are now two products planned for this year. Sony introduced a QD-OLED TV, the Master Series A95K. And there’s an ultra-wide monitor by Dell Alienware. It is the latter that interests us, it now has an introductory price in the United States.

A typical gaming screen

As a reminder, Dell and Samsung Display made a joint announcement at CES 2022. They announced the first QD-OLED monitor. This screen is curved (1800R), it is 34 inches diagonally and displays a UWQHD definition (3440 x 1440 pixels), with a native refresh rate of 175 Hz and a latency of 0.1 ms.

Dell promises 99% of the DCI-P3 color space, but also a DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification (peak brightness of 400 cd / m²). We also have AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync support.

3 times more expensive than a similar PC screen

Dell Alienware has just announced its price in the United States: 1,299 dollars excluding VAT, or 1,160 euros excluding VAT. The official price in France has not been mentioned, but the American price allows you to realize that it is a screen far from cheap. You can read our special ultrawide monitor buying guide, a VA QLED monitor with similar specifications is sold between 400 and 500 euros. This is the case of the Millenium MD34 Pro, Samsung Odyssey G5 but also Xiaomi Mi Curved Gaming Monitor 34.

As a reminder, QD-OLED offers undeniable qualities compared to other technologies that we usually come across on PC screens. On the program: unlimited contrast, theoretically better color space coverage than LG OLED and peak brightness beyond 1000 nits. The file dedicated to QD-OLED goes into detail on this new panel technology.
