A year after the Hippie Caviar Hotel, Renault is back with a second concept called Hippie Caviar Motel. It takes the form of a 100% electric fitted van, based on the Kangoo E-Tech.
While leisure vehicles are becoming more and more fashionable (and it is not the excellent sales figures of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz that will say the opposite), many manufacturers are entering this market. This is notably the case of Renault, which unveiled last year the Hippie Caviar Hotel, an electric fitted van distinguished by the possibility for the user to have a logistics container delivered equipped with a shower or a charging station. A few months later, the brand unveiled the Renault Trafic SpaceNomad, its first production van vehicle marketed since July.
A new electric concept
At the end of the summer holidays, the diamond firm returns with a brand new concept, also prefiguring a future leisure vehicle. If no indication as to a marketing of the latter as is has been given by Renault, everything suggests that this could be the case. And for good reason, the manufacturer announced a few months ago its desire to become a 100% electric brand from 2030. A decision no doubt motivated by the ban on the sale of thermal cars in Europe only five years later.
It is therefore in this context that this Renault Hippie Caviar Motel was unveiled, presented by the brand as ” a base camp allowing easy jumping from one place to another according to the statement. Primarily intended for nature lovers, this vehicle is fitted with numerous storage compartments, in particular for storing sports equipment, inside and outside. Indeed, rails have been installed on the panoramic roof for skis. If no photo of the cabin has been shown, Renault specifies that the bench seat can be transformed into a bed.
A known basis
Good news, this Renault Hippie Caviar Motel details its technical specificities. Based on the new Kangoo L2 E-Tech Electric, the latter has a 45 kWh battery which allows it to travel approximately 285 km in a single charge according to the WLTP cycle. As the brand specifies, only 30 minutes are necessary to be able to gain 170 km, at a maximum power of 80 kW. The engine develops a power of 120 horsepower, while the 0 to 100 km / h and the top speed are not known.
This concept will be officially unveiled on September 19 and will be present at the Hanover Motor Show., which will take place from September 20 to 25. We should know a bit more about him then. There is no doubt that this model could give life to a production model, while electric fitted vans are still rare on the market. The main constraint, however, remains to find a way to recharge the battery during stays in the great outdoors. Rivian’s idea of installing charging stations near major American national parks could no doubt inspire other manufacturers, who knows?
