an excellent surprise that will make your life easier

As part of its traditional GeForce NOW Thursday, NVIDIA had a great announcement to make to users of Valve’s famous Steam Deck.

The Steam Deck is therefore likely to gain further popularity. NVIDIA is indeed making the launch of its flagship Cloud Gaming solution much easier on the PC/portable console hybrid. Although this is a beta feature, it will allow Valve’s device to increase its versatility.

The Steam Deck joins the NVIDIA cloud more easily

Although it was already possible to access GeForce NOW via the Steam Deck, the exercise was still a bit tricky. On the occasion of its usual gaming announcements around its flagship Cloud Gaming service, NVIDIA had good news for mobile PC gamers. Thanks to a script (still in beta) specifically designed for the Valve device, it is now possible to automatically install a Google Chrome browser to configure GeForce NOW.

On paper, this allows you to access the NVIDIA service without having to go through the Steam Deck desktop mode. The script is in fact designed to work in its basic mode. This joins a GeForce NOW update rolled out last week. This made the application easier to use with a controller. It will therefore be easier than ever to play non-Steam games. As a bonus, at least for Ultimate subscribers, it will be possible to benefit from it with performance equivalent to a PC equipped with an RTX 4080. This of course provided you have an excellent Internet connection.

This therefore indirectly allows access to compatible games from Battle.Net, the Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect and other platforms, from the basic mode of the Steam Deck. Otherwise, access to them had to be done via the device’s desktop mode. But that meant docking it to plug in a keyboard and mouse. The console controller alone is unfortunately not sufficient to use the desktop.
