An individual has been entrenched since Friday morning in his home in Saint-Valérien in Yonne. He had previously opened fire on another man shortly before 9 a.m. The GIGN intervention forces have been present on the scene since mid-morning, the prefecture said.

After opening fire on a man this Friday morning, an individual took refuge in his home located in Saint-Valérien in the Yonne department, AFP learned from the prefecture. “The GIGN intervention forces arrived on the scene in the middle of the morning,” said the latter in a press release, which does not specify whether the man targeted was hit by the shots. According to sources familiar with the matter, the man in question is said to have died.

Gunshots were heard at 8:50 a.m. in Saint-Valérien, the prefecture said. “I heard four shots, three in a row, then some time later, one last,” a resident living nearby told an AFP correspondent.

The confined population
