An Ivorian football player dies in the middle of a match after suffering from illness

Racing Club d’Abidjan defender Sylla Moustapha died on Sunday after feeling unwell in the middle of a football match. The 21-year-old died while being evacuated to hospital. The Racing d’Abidjan club has a partnership with OGC Nice.

The defender of Racing d’Abidjan (Ivorian first division) Moustapha Sylla died on Sunday after feeling unwell in the middle of the match, his club said. “Our defender Moustapha Sylla, died this evening following an illness on the lawn during the RCA vs Sol FC meeting”, indicates a press release from the club which sends its condolences to the player’s family.

“During his evacuation to the hospital, Moustapha died. He arrived at the club last September and was only 21,” club president Logossina Cissé confirmed to AFP. The young player is said to have died during his transfer to the hospital.

Partner of OGC Nice

The Racing d’Abidjan club, which has been playing in the Ivorian first division since the 2018/2019 season, has a partnership with OGC Nice. He was crowned champion of Côte d’Ivoire in 2020 and currently occupies 7th place in the championship.
