Apple has been offering a beta version of its future iOS 17.2 update since October. The opportunity for the firm to deploy features that it had presented in June without having included them in the final version.

With beta 4 just released today, Apple allows users to act on a setting that has always been the same since the first iPhone: the notification sound.

Change the default notification sound on iPhone

With iOS 17, Apple introduced a new default notification sound for third-party apps (not developed by Apple), dubbed “ Rebound ”, which replaced the traditional “Tri-tone» well known to iPhone users.

Deemed too low volume level, the change was greeted with controversy, especially since it was impossible to return to the previous setting. This is surely what motivated Apple to offer a new setting to change the default notification sound.

You will soon have the choice between more than ten new sounds in the “Alarm» from the menu «Sound and notifications“. The update also allows you to modify the default haptic feedback.

Other changes planned in iOS 17.2

With this update, Apple also plans a whole series of changes expected since their announcement last June. In particular, we are waiting for the brand new Journal application which will allow you to document your life using AI.

THEplaylistsCollaborative features on Apple Music should also arrive with iOS 17.2 (even if they have been removed from this beta), as should the recording of spatial videos to be played on the Apple Vision Pro headset. Other aesthetic changes are coming, like emoji reactions on messages and new widgets.

This version 17.2 of iOS is expected for the month of December.
