an update with requested new features

PlayStation Portal just got better with a brand new system update. In particular, we find improvements highly requested by the community since launch.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a new system software update for PlayStation Portal, the brand’s streaming gaming device. This update will be available tomorrow and introduces several improvements for users. Unfortunately, we don’t yet know how much it will weigh.

PlayStation Portal is getting better

As reported by the official website, various improvements can be noted for the PlayStation Portal. One of the main new features in this update is compatibility with certain public Wi-Fi networks that require additional validation steps, such as those found in hotels, cafes and airports. To log in, the PlayStation Portal will display a QR code that users can scan with their smartphone or tablet. They will then be able to use the web browser on their mobile device to complete the required validation steps. Sony recommends a Wi-Fi connection of at least 5 Mbps. With 15 Mbps high speed connection for better gaming experience.

Visual feedback for touchpad areas

The update also improves the emulated touchpad on PlayStation Portal’s vibrant 8-inch LCD screen. New visual effects will be displayed when using touchpad areas during remote play. Another notable improvement is the addition of the option to display the remaining battery percentage in the status bar at the top right of the screen. To activate this feature, simply open the quick menu, go to [Paramètres] > [Système] > [Batterie] and activate [Afficher le Pourcentage de Batterie].

Since its initial launch last November, PlayStation Portal has received an enthusiastic response from the gaming community. More than 60% of PS Portal owners are using Remote Play for the first time.
