A success this fall, Anatomy of a Fall by Justine Triet, Palme d’Or 2023, has already exceeded 750,000 admissions, the filmmaker’s greatest success to date, ahead of Victoria.
Public and critical acclaim, with a very high press rating of 4.4/5, Anatomy of a Fall is a dense and captivating film, including intense and long trial scenes. Justine Triet’s film keeps us in suspense until the last minute, with its suspense surrounding the resolution of the trial.
If, as Justine Triet confirmed to us, Anatomy of a Fall is not based on real events, some people may have thought of a high-profile trial when they saw the film.
During the presentation of the 2023 Palme d’or, during our AlloCiné Club, Justine Triet spoke with the public present and agreed to enlighten us on the possible parallel with the Amber Heard – Johnny Depp trial.
The script for Anatomy of a Fall was already completely written and filming had begun when the trial took place. The filmmaker recognizes that we can indeed see a parallel there.disturbing“.
“It was very surprising to see this trial take place in real life while we were filming“, she told us. And added: “Obviously disturbing“.
She specifies: “It was in the middle of filming the trial scenes for the film. The trial of Amber Heard and Johnny Depp was broadcast live from the United States. When I came home from filming in the evening, I watched almost live. I actually saw parallels there.“
In Anatomy of a Fall, the accused is questioned in particular about her morals and her sexuality. Justine Triet qualifies by explaining, however, that few spectators asked her the question about a possible parallel between the two trials. “I haven’t been told that much about it“, she says.
She adds : “Reality is always much worse than fiction. In the trial, Amber Heard is extremely mistreated. There is delusional misogyny in this trial. This taught me one thing: the reality is much worse, at least in the United States. The reality is totally beyond imagination. I could never have written something like this. I can’t create this perversion“, she emphasizes.
Remember that the Amber Heard – Johnny Depp trial has already been the subject of several documentaries, and already a fiction film, the trailer of which can be seen here. A few months ago, France 5 broadcast an episode of La Fabrique du lie (still available in replay) which returns to the defamation trial between the two actors.
