And here’s a new feed you didn’t ask for on Instagram

For years, Instagram users have been complaining about their feed. They would prefer a chronological algorithm to display massages, as was the case before.

Instagram is currently testing a new feature for users’ News Feeds, but that should only partially resolve this issue. This is a new feed for verified accounts only.

On Monday, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced that the social media platform was testing a new option that would show users a feed with posts made only by Meta-verified users.

Highlighting Meta Verified

Users will be able to access this new feed by tapping the Instagram logo in the upper left corner, which will present three options: The existing “Follow” and “Favorites” tabs, and the new “Meta Verified” tab below.

This feature aims to help creators and users by giving them a way to stand out and giving users more control over what they see.

“We are exploring this as a new control for people and a way for businesses and creators to be discovered,” Mosseri said, according to press reports.

Who will actually choose to scroll through this feed?

This new feed appears to be an attempt by Instagram to get people to upgrade to the Meta Verified subscription in order to get more exposure on the platform. Meta Verified subscription guarantees a place in the new feed.

However, even though users who have a Meta Verified account will technically rank higher in this specific feed than in the general feed, the question arises as to who will actually choose to scroll through this feed.

Meta Verified, originally launched in February, costs users a whopping $14.99 per month when they sign up on iOS or Android through the mobile app, or $11.99 when they sign up through the web.
