Apparently it wasn’t easy: The creators of “And Just Like That…” managed to put Carrie in a “Sex and the City” cult dress.

Season two of “And Just Like That…” has started. The first episode of the “Sex and the City” spin-off already featured a fashion treat for fans of the original series… Spoiler alert!

Emergency for Carrie

Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker, 58) has a big problem at the start of season two. As she prepares for the legendary Met Gala, the designer tells her on the day of the big event that her dress isn’t ready yet. After hours of panicked fittings, she finds another option in her closet.

Viewers see Carrie at the end of the episode walking down the stairs of her Manhattan home in a reworked version of her old wedding dress.

“Lots of memories and emotions”

Carrie’s wedding dress has already been through a lot. She first wore Vivienne Westwood’s voluminous gown in the 2008 film ‘Sex and the City’ to the failed marriage to Mr. Big (Chris Noth, 68). At the end of the film, the two reconciled and got married, but their marital bliss didn’t last: Big died of a heart attack in the first episode of “And Just Like That…” in 2021.

“Ideas are projected into every fiber of this dress”, Sarah Jessica Parker explains to USA Today. “It holds a lot of memories, emotions and stories, and I thought it was an exciting idea for Carrie to explore.” Adds series creator Michael Patrick King (68) about Carrie’s performance in the dress: “She says, ‘And just like that … my pain found a new meaning’.” It’s “a perfect way to show that she’s moving forward with a new perspective on everything.”

Long search for the dress

Apparently, the original dress for the shoot wasn’t easy to find. King called costume designers and the leading lady – but no one knew where the dress was. Finally, the trail led to the archives of Vivienne Westwood in England. The robe was in a warehouse. However, it was a public holiday, King reveals. He got messages from his team like: “We won’t be able to get it in time,” he recalls. “Then there was a security guard who had the keys and let them in, and then they wrapped it up and sent it off.”

“It was hard to get my hands on,” Parker agrees. “We weren’t confident that we would actually get the original dress back,” and there were many other issues: “We weren’t sure if I would fit in, what it would look like, what shape it would be…”

When they finally received the dress, there was also the question of how to make it suitable for the Met Gala. The solution was a teal cloak and matching gloves. “There were a million different versions before we came across this,” says Parker. And then there was the biggest problem: how does Parker get out the door and down the stairs with it? “Picking up the dress and coming down the steep stairs without falling – that was complicated,” says King. “I was like, ‘This is a tech-savvy actress. She can do it all and still retain her dignity and beauty.’ Nobody could do that but her. Nobody.”

A new episode every Thursday

The second season of “And Just Like That…” comprises eleven episodes and started with two episodes on Thursday (June 22) parallel to the US launch exclusively on Sky and on the streaming service Wow. The following nine episodes are broadcast weekly on Thursdays in individual episodes.
