Thales recently unveiled its Voice Payment Card, a voice payment card.

A new card which is of course intended for people with blindness and visual impairment. We explain to you.

Make your payment card talk to make it easier to use

It is a fact, despite enormous progress in recent years, most banking services are not adapted to people with disabilities. For example, it is not uncommon for people with visual impairments to be victims of fraud or an error when paying for a purchase. Also, Thales announces its “voice” payment card.

This new Voice Payment Card was developed in partnership with Handsome, a company specializing in inclusive solutions. As its name suggests, the Voice Payment Card is responsible for giving voice, in order to allow people with visual impairments to benefit from a safe and autonomous payment experience.

How it works ?

The operation of this new Voice Payment Card is very simple. When the customer receives their card, all they need to do is download the dedicated application to their phone, then pair their card to it. During a payment, a link connects the card to the user’s mobile phone, and the user then communicates the amount of the transaction orally.

Once the code has been entered on the payment terminal, the phone takes care, still by voice, of confirming (or not) the transaction. The system is obviously certified by Visa and Mastercard, and Thales confirms that the card should soon be offered by various banking establishments.

Thales explains that a variant has also been developed for people traveling abroad. Thus, each step of a transaction in a foreign country can be translated into the user’s language, the system also being able to convert the amount into the user’s currency.
