The year was very interesting in terms of space news. And to end 2022 in style, what could be better than a magnificent book to place at the foot of the tree?!

Indeed, Thomas Pesquet once again offers us a masterful glimpse of our Earth from the International Space Station.

A book as a keepsake

We are not going to document the exploits of Thomas Pesquet for the hundredth time (at least). However, let us remember all the same that the French astronaut spent 200 days in orbit around our planet from April 23 to November 8, 2021. A widely publicized trip that the main interested party immortalized in a very beautiful way.

Thus, during his second stay on board the ISS, Thomas Pesquet captured around 245,000 photos of our planet. He then shared some sumptuous shots on social networks. Last November, Flammarion published a book entitled The Earth in our hands. This contains some of the finest shots taken by the 44-year-old Frenchman. A real treat for the eyes !

It’s for a good cause

This 416-page book contains 300 photos, each more sumptuous than the next. They highlight the beauty of our Earth, but also its fragility in the face of exceptional weather events (such as hurricanes) and in the face of climate change. Pesquet notably captured the huge fires that ravaged Europe and North America last year. The photos are divided into several chapters according to what they show (seas, clouds, mountains, rivers…) or what time of day.

In short, it is a useful book for (re)discovering the Earth while becoming aware of the impact of human civilization on the climate and biodiversity. The icing on the cake, the royalties are donated to the Restos du Cœur. A great gift idea for Christmas coupled with a good deed.
