Anyone who has followed the refurbished market for several years will not be surprised to know that once again, it is Apple which wins the prize for the best-selling refurbished smartphone in France in 2023. The iPhone 11 slips right to the top of the ranking, followed by 4 other Apple models and three Samsung models. A domination that says a lot about the state of the current market.
Apple, another big winner in 2023
The iPhone 11 therefore, which has gained one place since the 2022 ranking, is attractive thanks to its low price, explains Recommerce. Despite the fact that the mobile was released four years ago now, it continues its life on the second-hand market, “proof that a well-reconditioned smartphone can be used for a long time» explains the company. Next in the ranking are the iPhone XR, iPhone 12, iPhone 8 and iPhone SE.
The second and third in this ranking did not appear in the previous ones. The case of the iPhone 12 is particularly interesting since, despite the temporary suspension of sales which affected “more the reconditioned market than the new one», the device managed to climb to third place on the podium. Behind the deluge of iPhones, there are three small places reserved for old high-end Samsung mobiles, namely the Galaxy S10 (6th), the Galaxy S21 (7th) and the S20 (8th). The S20 and S21 make their first appearances in the ranking of best-selling refurbished mobiles. Finally, to close the list, we find the indestructible iPhone 7 then the iPhone 13.
Unparalleled Apple/Samsung domination
“This year, as always, we see the near monopoly of the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy in our ranking», notes Augustin Bequet. This domination is explained by the “residual value” of its phones, which remains higher for a longer time after their releases, due, among other things, to a more stable pricing policy compared to other models which are largely sold off for a few years. months after their announcements. With Samsung and Apple mobiles selling for more, owners see more benefit in recovering a little nest egg by entrusting their phones to a refurbisher before buying a new one.
Their high prices also encourage more repairs, which allows for better tracking of spare parts.
