Twitter Gaming has unveiled its results for the year 2021 on its social network. Popular games, online events or the return of esport: the gaming community, in France and around the world, has had plenty of voice. Here are the 10 most talked about games of the past year.

The year 2020 had shown how the video game had brought players and people together in times of confinement, propelling the theme among the main discussions on Twitter. 2021 has confirmed the trend with “ a record year for conversations around gaming on Twitter“, Welcomes the company to the little blue bird.
In total, more than 2.4 billion tweets were posted on the subject (+ 14% over one year, x10 compared to 2017). Twitter launched its theme a few years ago to support a growing trend. No doubt we did not expect such a rapid and significant boom in San Francisco. The 4th quarter was the most dense with video game releases expected (FIFA 22, Far Cry 6, Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, Battlefield 2042, Call of Duty Vanguard …) which have been talked about a lot, for good and sometimes less well due to bugs that always generate a very high rate of engagement.

And France is still in the Top 10 of the countries where video games are discussed the most on Twitter, far behind the ever-inexhaustible Japan, followed by the United States and South Korea. Asia is also strongly represented with also Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and India. Countries in particular where esport is king.

However, it is not one of these blockbusters that trusts the podium for the most popular games of the year on the platform. The first place is for Genshin Impact. The action-RPG game developed by the studio miHoYo landed by surprise at the end of 2020 on mobile, then gradually on console, PC and Nintendo Switch. Something to touch all types of players, both solo and multi. It offered itself a major update during the year, adding many characters to its already very large gallery (43 playable characters in total, four controllable simultaneously).

Apex and Final fantasy are still there, just like Animal Crossing, the 2020 star. Minecraft which is regularly talked about, and obviously Fortnite. The latter generated as many posts for its various updates during the year, its exceptional concerts, as its trial with Apple. There are also Asian phenomena such as gambling Ensemble_stars, Project Sekai Colorful Stage (@pj_sekai) or Knives Out.
In France, Genshin Impact throne also at the head before the Eternal League of Legends, also boosted by the release of the series Arcane on Netflix. E3 surpasses the Summer Game Fest
Despite its repeated cancellations in physical version, the E3 salon in Los Angeles continues to be talked about. In 2021, it remained the most commented gaming event on Twitter. It is undoubtedly as much its cancellation, the holding of events galore like the rich Xbox Showcase and all the micro-events that animated the month of June that helped it to propel itself to the top of the rankings. Paradoxically, however, it is the Summer Game Fest organized by Geoff Keighley to bring the industry together, with a dense conference and the trailer forElden ring in a high point that had marked the spirits.
However, the Summer Game Fest only arrives in 5th position behind the Xbox summer conference and the Game Awards, the true great raout of Keighley who then awards the “Video game Oscars”. No doubt many tweets talking about the event have been linked to the other big meeting of the summer… E3 2021.
