The Swiss company Micro Mobility Systems AG has just passed an important milestone: that of the thousand vehicles produced in its factory in Turin, Italy. His microcar concept, the Microlino, is designed to rethink mobility in the city.
This tiny two-seater electric city car stands out first by its downright cute look. Starting from the observation that most daily journeys in town do not exceed 35 kilometres, the Küsnacht firm aims to offer a compact vehicle suitable for urban travel.
A vehicle perfectly adapted to urban use
Certainly, you will not have your neck broken with each acceleration as is the case in a Tesla. You will not be able to transport your whole family on board the Microlino either, the construction of which was launched in 2021. But this small vehicle was not designed for that, it was designed with the idea of replacing larger cars and to offer just enough space for daily journeys. Its small 12.5 kW (16.9 horsepower) engine will be enough to take you up to 90 km/h, which is more than enough for urban use.
In Europe, the Microlino will therefore be subject to L7e legislation and thus categorized as a heavy quadricycle. This set of more flexible regulations will allow it easier entry into the market. Its reduced size and light weight still offer its driver better protection than a scooter or a motorcycle.
According to Merlin Ouboter, CEO and co-founder of the company, the Microlino requires much less energy per kilometer than a conventional electric car. The energy footprint, both in terms of production and use, is therefore reduced. It is only a third of that of a conventional electric car.
Historical inspiration and efficient production
Despite a limited cost (17,900 euros), the quality of construction of this microcar is intended to match the rest of automotive production. Largely inspired by the BMW Isetta produced between 1955 and 1962, the Microlino has a single door on the front. Its structure is entirely in aluminium, which until very late was the prerogative of competition cars.
The increase in the production rate in the Italian factory will allow more and more customers to obtain this small city car. The company promises future buyers a unique driving experience, while meeting the needs of eco-conscious drivers.
The Microlino is soon ready to conquer the streets, and its very inspired design already sets it apart from its competitors. Designed as a new mobility solution in urban areas, its promise is therefore to offer a real alternative to conventional vehicles.
