Andalusian dance – Salzburg in flamenco fever

Thank you Mama Bartoli! If Silvana Bazzoni hadn’t intervened at the end of the 1970s, Salzburg would have lost a festival institution. Cecilia Bartoli actually wanted to be a flamenco dancer, but her mother knew better and sent her to singing lessons. The lively Roman woman still loves this dance, attends flamenco evenings whenever she has time and never tires of raving about it in interviews. She was literally brought to it as a teenager by a friend who took her to her dance lessons. For a time, Bartoli even joined a semi-professional group. To please her mother, she finally put down the castanets and devoted herself to singing. How deep the dance is in her bones can still be seen today in the body language of the head of the Whitsun Festival and it has also left its mark on her character.
