Anderson loses his nerve
Bizarre allegations leave darts star Cullen at a loss

Excitement in the Premier League: After his defeat in the quarterfinals, darts superstar Gary Anderson verbally addresses his competitor Joe Cullen. What exactly happened is initially unclear. Cullen later reports allegations of fraud – and is surprised.

The sparks fly between the darts stars Joe Cullen and Gary Anderson on the seventh day of the Premier League in Rotterdam. After their quarter-final match, a brief but intense exchange of words ensued. The TV pictures show how the Englishman looks puzzled in the direction of Anderson, who apparently conveys few warm words to him.

The Scot’s nerves were already on edge after he lost a 5:3 lead and invited his opponent back into the game. In the decisive leg he also messed up four match darts, Cullen ultimately won 6:5 and advanced to the semifinals. Shortly before one of the match darts awarded, Anderson was apparently thrown out of step by a fan acclamation, possibly blaming Cullen for it.

He then explained to “DAZN”: “He called me a scammer. Gary said he knew what I did.” Cullen couldn’t figure it out: “I did absolutely nothing wrong.” In the past he had never had a problem with Anderson, he wondered. Unlike Anderson, the 32-year-old was able to keep a cool head afterwards. In the semi-finals, Joe Cullen defeated reigning world champion Peter Wright 6-4. In the final, the “rock star” defeated the Dutchman Michael van Gerwen 6:5 – to boos from the Oranje fans.

With his first win, Cullen was able to score important points in the fight for playoff qualification. He is currently in fourth place with ten points, led by Micheal van Gerwen (17 points). The darts stars have the next chance to score something countable on March 31 in Birmingham. The decisive playoff tournament will take place on June 13 in Berlin.
