Invited on Thursday May 19, 2022 on the set of C à vous, André Dussollier returned to his acting career. He notably mentioned the shooting of a film, where he had to burst into tears.
André Dussollier was Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine’s guest in It’s up to you, Thursday, May 19, 2022. The 76-year-old actor went to the set of the show to discuss the film”Juliet in her bath“, directed by Jean-Paul Lilienfeld and broadcast the following day on art. During his passage on France 5he looked back on his long career and in particular on the shooting of a very special scene in the movie Meloreleased in 1986.
At the time, the French actor was in his forties and was to play the character of Marcel Blanc in Alain Resnais’ film. He explained that in the scene in question, he was forced to put himself “in a strong, violent emotional state“. Indeed, Pierre Arditi had to make a revelation to him and he had to burst into tears, whereas he was previously very relaxed and laughing. A difficult scene to shoot since it had to be able to cry in seconds.
André Dussollier: “The first take, I murder my whole family”.
To get in shape, André Dussollier had to imagine important things to him, who could hurt him. He told Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine: “So the first take, I murder my whole family, but after that it doesn’t work anymore, so I have to find something else. I murdered dogs, friends, cousins to renew the emotion“. A particularly painful moment, but which allowed the actor to Three men and a bassinet to shoot the scene.
Finally, the one who would later become the father of Léo (1988) and Giulia (1993) was disappointed, because this intense scene ended up being cut during editing. “That’s what’s cruel in cinema, but it’s the law of cinema, Alain Resnais who is a very modest man didn’t take the scene where I was crying” he concluded.
