Andreas Gabalier: That's why the alpine rocker is no substitute for Helene Fischer

Andreas Gabalier is in the mood for Christmas. In an interview, he reveals why his new show is not in competition with Helene Fischer.

Andreas Gabalier (35, "I sing a Liad for di") celebrates a musical premiere on Friday (November 20th): On his first Christmas album "A Volks-Rock'n'Roll Christmas" he lets his typical Volks-Rock'n '' Roll sound merge with Christmas sounds. On December 5th he will also present his own Christmas show for the first time. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, he reveals why he cannot replace Helene Fischer (36).

Do you have a favorite Christmas song?

Gabalier: "Driving Home For Christmas" because I've been on the road a lot over the past few years. After all the successes and the turbulent life, at Christmas it is always "Now let's go to Mutti" – home to the roots.

You will interpret the Wham! Classic "Last Christmas" together with Gregor Meyle. How did that happen?

Gabalier: I've known Gregor since "Sing mein Song" in 2014. He is a dear colleague who has grown very dear to my heart and suggested "Last Christmas" and said: "It can't be missing. Let's do something crazy with it. " Then he came to Graz and we had two fun days.

The "Helene Fischer Show" was canceled for this Christmas. You will be the protagonist of your own Christmas show on ORF for the first time on December 5th. Do you hope to be able to compete with Helene a little?

Gabalier: No. What Helene recorded for weeks every year is enormous and something completely different. We'll do a song recording. It's a nice compliment to act as a replacement for their show, but we're doing a sort of MTV Unplugged with Christmas carols.

What do you particularly like about the Christmas holidays?

Gabalier: I love our fondue on Christmas Eve and December 25th, which we enjoy in a family atmosphere in the mountains. Nobody has work with it and it is a sociable meal for hours. A freshly cooked meal usually means stress and is over quickly.

It's your second Christmas without a woman by your side. Many people are depressed by the celebration of love being single. Is that the same for you?

Gabalier: That'll be seen … No, I'm actually fine. I am pleased that we (Gabalier and ex-girlfriend Silvia Schneider, editor's note) get on well. We respect each other when we see each other. The worst thing is when people who were once a couple talk badly. That wasn't the case at all, that's why everything is fine the way it is.

What do you wish for in 2021?

Gabalier: A bit of normality – and that I can finally get back on stage. That is my only wish. I just hope the months of reporting don't make people too intimidated. I'm afraid it will take a long time before people feel ready to go to concerts again.
