Android 12: Amazon’s Appstore works after an update

Amazon has fixed the problems of its Android app store under Android 12 with an update. With the new version of the alternative to the Play Store, applications can now be installed and started as intended. Heise online was able to understand this on a Pixel 4A. Previously, the app store was useless on the current Android version.

After the update, you should log out and log in again, recommends Amazon in a forum entry. In October there were initial reports from users that the Amazon Appstore was not working properly on Android 12. As a result, applications that were installed via the app store could not be started.

There was also no way to download new apps. Heise online was able to confirm the problem on a Google Pixel 4A. “We are also happy about Android 12. Unfortunately, we are currently dealing with some problems,” said a note within the app. On November 14th, an Amazon forum manager said that a solution was in the works. It was quiet for over a month after that.

Android 12 has been available on Pixel phones since October 20th, developer versions have been available for months – more than enough time for Amazon to optimize their store to the new version of the operating system. Meanwhile, some independent manufacturers are also offering the new OS version for their top models. The most important new features of Android 12 include the revised color design and the privacy dashboard with quick access to app authorizations.

The Amazon Appstore is one of the largest alternative app stores for Google’s Android mobile operating system. You cannot install it from the Play Store, instead you have to download an APK. Microsoft uses the Appstore under Windows 11 to offer Android apps on the PC. This does not yet work by default in Germany, but with a few tricks you can install the Amazon Store on Windows 11 in this country as well.
