Announced last October, Android 12L is a version of Android 12 designed for large screens, such as touch tablets or foldable smartphones. If the first betas have been available since December 2021, the official version was released a few months ago and Pixels are no longer the only compatible smartphones. According to information from SammyFansAndroid 12L would soon appear in the next version of One UI.

Android 12L spotted in next One UI update

It’s Samsung’s One Hand Operation+ app update changelog that would confirm that Android 12L is coming in the next One UI update. It is a module of Good Lock, Samsung’s personalization application that modifies the interface of Galaxy smartphones. This update to version 5.3.31 ” brings support for One UI 4.1.1 based on Android 12L “.

SammyFansrecalls that “Samsung is preparing to release One UI 4.1.1 for Galaxy devices“. An update of the interface which will be presentedalongside the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 in the coming months“.

What Android 12L will change for Samsung folders and tablets

Currently, One UI is in version 4.1 and will be moving to 4.1.1, which shouldn’t change much. But we can imagine changes for Samsung folders and tablets, since Android 12L would be supported.

First there is the division of the quick settings and notifications menu, which will end up side by side in two columns when today they are on top of each other. The interface will be moreresponsive, that is to say, it will adapt better to all types of screens. Finally, the multitasking mode will be improved with a taskbar interface to easily switch from one application to another. Note that this already exists on Android 12, but Samsung does not use it and takes another approach with its Galaxy Z Fold 3.

This update to Android 12L actually arrives in time for the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, expected in mid-August. Although Android 13 is under development, the final version should only be released during the summer, with an update of the interface of Samsung to One UI 5. Samsung would therefore choose to release its new folding under Android 12L. On the tablet side, we already know that the Galaxy Tab S8 will switch to this adapted version of Android.
