Android 13 includes many innovations around security and privacy, but also developer productivity and various tools.

The developer version can already be tested by those with compatible Google smartphones: Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6, Pixel 5a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 4a, the Pixel 4 XL and the Pixel 4. Ideal therefore to allow developers to understand the next version of the OS and adapt their applications.

Security in the line of sight in Android 13

Having an ever safer operating system is one of Google’s goals with Android 13. More specifically, the Mountain View company is counting on a renewed photo selector to gain privacy. This should, in particular, allow you to share your photos and videos saved on your smartphone as on a Cloud service in complete security.

Even more, it is for the applications downloaded on your Android smartphone to benefit from an application programming interface (API) avoiding asking you what you want to share with them each time you use it. Only applications authorized by you will therefore have partial or full access to your photos and videos.

Moreover, the “NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES” execution authorization is entering Android 13. This must allow applications that request it to be connected to a Wi-Fi network, or to another electronic device by a Wi-Fi connection, without asking for your location data thanks to a dedicated API. In short, this is another concrete way to gain confidentiality.

Google also wants to adapt to all screens

A new Quick Settings panel should also be tested by developers, especially for applications offering instant notifications. It will be possible to add them directly to Quick Settings. More so, the icon themes can be changed by users as they like to best suit their wallpaper. It will also be possible to define the language of use for each application, practical for polyglots.

Updates through Google Play will also be more numerous, while increased optimization for foldable devices, Chromebooks or even tablets is planned to facilitate the use of applications on all types of screens. This version reserved for developers must give way in mid-March 2022 to the beta achievements of Android 13, the final version of which is hoped by Google in August 2022.
