Dual SIM cell phones allow you to use two different cell phone numbers on one device. So far, two physical SIM cards, or one physical SIM and one eSIM, have been required for this. This could change with Android 13.
As the technology blog Gizmochina reports, Google filed a patent for a new technology in 2020.
This should allow an eSIM chip to be connected to two mobile networks at the same time. This is achieved through “Multiple Enabled Profiles” (multiple activated profiles – MEP). This could enable dual SIM cell phones with just one eSIM.
This information is still rumours. Android 13 is scheduled for release in fall 2022. Google is expected to present the new OS in more detail at the Google I/O in May.
