Android 13 has become one of the best system releases to date. While it’s not a game-changing release like Android 12, Google developers have refined the user interface, improved battery life, and made the whole experience smoother. . All the new features and improvements are bundled together such that there is a lot to enjoy in the latest version sent by Google.
For example, I came across a small addition to the platform that made me smile. Allow me to set the scene.
Although it’s not everyday, there are times when I need to close or force close an app. It could just be because I’m not using the app, or maybe it’s rambling or using more system resources than it should. In this case, I need to be able to close the app quickly, or at least I want to.
Android 13 makes this task considerably easier than previous iterations. Here’s how.
How to close apps from the notification screen
What you will need: simply a Pixel device like the Pixel 6 Pro running Android 13 (Pixel devices are the only phones to have received the update at this point).
Hopefully, as soon as Android 13 becomes available for other devices, anyone with a supported phone will then be able to use this feature.
1. Unlock Android
The first thing to do is to unlock your Android device.
2. Pull down the notification screen
Pull down twice on the notification screen (it is important to pull down twice, because the function is not visible if you pull down once). Once you’ve successfully pulled down the screen, you should see a note at the bottom left of the screen showing the number of active apps.
This reports how many apps are running, like a fitness tracker, rather than apps you’ve opened but aren’t currently using, like Twitter.

3. Open the active applications popup window
Press on Active apps and a new pop-up window will appear, listing active and running applications.

4. Stop a running application
In the active apps popup, you should see stop buttons for each active app. Tap Stop for any app you want to force close and the app will then be listed as stopped.

The next time you open the active applications popup window, the stopped application will no longer be listed.
That’s all there is to stopping active apps in Android 13. It’s much easier than going to Settings > Apps > [nom de l’appli] > Force stop. This can take a bit more effort than using gesture navigation to swipe an app, and it doesn’t always work for all apps. If you often have apps that you lose control of, this new feature will make your life on Android a little more efficient.
With the update to Android 13, you should encounter far fewer instances where apps need to be force-closed anyway. But even if they do, you now have a convenient way to stop them.
