The new Android 14 beta allows you to take advantage of a new function that is as simple as expected (and practical).

Customizing lock screen shortcuts will soon be a reality with Android 14. Joy!

A finally customizable lock screen

Available for a few hours now, the new (and third) beta of Android 14 allows you to test some of the features to come in Google’s new mobile OS a little more in depth. Among these new features, the ability to customize the lock screen.

Indeed, Android 14 will allow users to select the shortcuts displayed on either side at the bottom of the screen, when the smartphone is locked. A long press will then launch the desired application without having to unlock the smartphone beforehand.

Welcome personalization… but limited

In this way, it will always be possible to draw the Camera application in a fraction of a second, but we can do the same with the QR code reader, the Wallet application, the “Do Not Disturb” mode, the lamp pocket, Google Home, Google Assistant, or even Notes.

However, and as we already mentioned a few days ago, Android 14 will not allow very extensive customization of the lock screen. Do not expect to hang your favorite social network for example, since the functionality will be limited to the shortcuts mentioned above, at least for the moment.

Recently, we learned that the new Android 14 was also going to give pride of place to artificial intelligence, which will notably improve the quality of photos thanks to a feature called Ultra HDR. As always, the rollout of Android 14 will be gradual, with availability first on the Pixel line, then the following weeks and months on third-party smartphones.
