Android 14 is here: These cell phones and tablets are now receiving the update

Android 14 is finally ready. Google kicked off distribution on October 4th. These cell phones and tablets can now look forward to the update.

One UI 6 based on Android 14 is now available for download as a test version for the S23.

Fans had to wait a long time for the release of Android 14. The beta test had already been completed since September 2023. But Google kept the release date a big secret – until now!

When will Android 14 be released?

When the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro were presented on October 4th, Google also announced the release of the new Android version. It is now being distributed to all dedicated Pixel phones and tablets and, according to Google, will be available on additional devices from Samsung Galaxy, iQOO, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, vivo and Xiaomi later this year be. Xiaomi was the first manufacturer to start distributing Android 14 for the first Xiaomi smartphones in mid-October.

With Android 14, numerous innovations find their way into the operating system. According to Google, the update will give you more control over your health and safety and improve accessibility. Android 14 offers, among other things, a special hearing aid setup in the accessibility settings.

The new Health Connect app also brings together the data from various health and sports apps in one place for you, thus providing a pleasant overview. It is integrated into your phone’s settings. If you protect your cell phone with a PIN, it now has to be six digits instead of the previous four digits.

AIs are all the rage right now and Google has also implemented some new AI features in Android 14. So you can have your own background images created with the new software. It is also now possible to give normal images a 3D effect and thus use them as a three-dimensional background image.

What nickname does Android 14 have?

According to rumors, the system is internally codenamed ”Upside Down Cake”. However, Google has stopped giving code names for new Android versions for several years.

What is Android 14 QPR1?

The abbreviation QPR stands for Quarterly Platform Release. These are quarterly feature updates distributed exclusively for Google’s Pixel phones. Android 14 QPR1 is the first such update based on Android 14.

Which smartphones will receive the update to Android 14?

Not all manufacturers have yet revealed which cell phones and tablets will receive an update to Android 14. Below we list updates that have already been confirmed.

Google

Google will provide the following phones with an update to Android 14. Corresponding beta versions are already available for them:

Xiaomi

Xiaomi has already started distributing Android 14 for the Xiaomi 13. According to Xiaomi’s security center or statements from the manufacturer, the following smartphones and tablets are also scheduled for an update to the new Android version.

Samsung

Samsung guarantees four major Android updates for some devices. You can therefore be sure of an Android 14 update for the following models. A beta version of the new OS is already available for testing for the Galaxy S23 series models.

Nokia

Nokia has also already promised an update to Android 14 for some smartphones:

Oppo

Oppo revealed to a Dutch online magazine which cell phones will receive an update to Android 14. An update is initially planned for the following 11 cell phones. There is no schedule for publication yet.
