Android 15: Google is working on the accessibility of its OS

Google has just released a new beta of Android 14 containing a feature called easy pre-set. Spotted by our colleagues from the Android Authority site, this would be intended to make the Android smartphone experience accessible to a wider audience, in particular the elderly and those suffering from vision problems. This initiative aims to resolve the challenges encountered by many users when trying to tame the Californian giant’s operating system.

Previewed as a hidden setting in the beta version of Android 14 QPR3, the easy pre-set function currently appears to be in the development phase. Although it cannot yet be activated, clues noted by journalist Mishaal Rahman suggest its potential capabilities. When available, this option will allow optimization of the user interface to improve readability and facilitate navigation.

Make use easier for all users

As the smartphone has become an essential tool in our daily lives, its complexity can be an obstacle for certain users, in particular the elderly, those who have not grown up with technology, or simply people with disabilities. The easy pre-set function aims to solve this problem by offering a simplified and more intuitive interface.

Main features of easy pre-set:

• Enlargement of icons and text: for better readability, especially for people with vision problems.
• Improved Contrast and Bold: To make interface elements more visible and distinct.
• Navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen: for easy access to essential functions.
• Pure black wallpaper: to avoid information overload and conserve battery life.

Google has not yet officially announced this easy preset option, but this move towards accessibility and inclusion should see the light of day with the launch of Android 15, the next major version of the operating system, expected at the end of the year. We can also expect an official presentation during Google I/O 2024, which we will not fail to follow closely.
