Android 15 launches a feature that should save you a lot of battery

Android 15 will be able to turn off the screen by itself

While the brand new beta 3 of Android 15 was launched on June 18, its users are discovering various unexpected features day after day, not necessarily publicly discussed by Google to promote them. Today, it is the “Adaptive Timeout” function which was discovered by our colleagues at 9to5Google. As its name suggests, the purpose of this feature is to automatically put the smartphone to sleep if it is not in use by its owner.

Automatic smartphone standby?

Currently, only one such option is available in the Android settings: the latter allows you to determine in advance the time necessary before the device goes to sleep by itself. It could be 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute… up to 30 minutes total. However, if you choose the 10 or 30 minutes option today, your device will remain on no matter what happens during these 10 or 30 minutes, whether you use your device or not. To prevent this function from using up the battery too much in case you have chosen a high time, you can pair it with the option “Screen Warning“, which determines via the device’s front camera whether you are using your smartphone, and makes the decision to put it on standby (or not) at the end of this chosen time.
