Connectivity in vehicles has come a long way since the introduction of infotainment systems, like Android Auto. Since its launch, the latter has evolved significantly by integrating more and more advanced functionalities. Recently, this was the case of artificial intelligence which brought a much-awaited AI functionality, the automatic summarization of messages. However, until recently, the possibility of play videos directly on the system was not available.

This gap has now been filled with the Last update of Android Auto. Google has just taken a step forward by allowing video projection since the smartphones towards the Dashboards cars. This feature opens up new possibilities for the use of infotainment systems by transforming them into a real multimedia center.

Android Auto will soon see lots of new applications

For now, brands such as Acura And Ford are among the first to benefit from this Android Auto update, as well as Rivian. This gradual deployment ensures smooth integration adapted to the specificities of each vehicle. Drivers and passengers can now view multimedia content in large format.

Additionally, Google introduced three quality levels for the apps automobiles in order to facilitate their integration. The first level, dedicated exclusively to automobiles, ensures complete adaptation to the different driving and display modes. The second improves the use of the central dashboard screen and includes useful features when driving or parking. The third level makes applications compatible with large screens that are usable when the vehicle is parked and do not require specific adaptations.

Finally, Google launched new tools and emulators for help developers to create applications adapted to various car screens. A specific program for remote and panoramic screens allows them to be tested on different formats. Additionally, an Android Auto system image for the Pixel Tablet helps simulate their operation as if the app were used directly on a car dashboard. It will soon be as complete as a smartphone!
