In the race for AI, Google arrived late. The Mountain View firm was taken by surprise by the immediate success of ChatGPT and Microsoft’s record stake in OpenAI, the company behind the famous conversational AI.

But quickly, Google caught up by launching Bard, its own conversational AI. In the process, the web giant made sure to add touches of artificial intelligence to the majority of its services, such as in its search engine, Gmail, or even Google Maps. Recently, Google launched NotebookLM, an AI-powered notes tool capable of summarizing your notes and adding information to them.

Android Auto will use AI soon

However, thanks to our colleagues from the 9To5Google site, the company in turn intends to integrate a feature boosted with artificial intelligence in Android Auto. Indeed, the American media went to dig into the code of the latest beta version of Google’s auto software. In this version 14.52 of the app, they unearthed several lines of code relating to an AI functionality capable of generate a summary of your most “lively” conversations in Google Messages.

This functionality would unsurprisingly rely on the Google Assistant, which as a reminder, is already capable of reading aloud your messages received on the instant messaging app. The problem with this system is that the driver can quickly become distracted, especially if the conversation contains a large number of messages. The idea would therefore be to summarize all of the exchanges using AI.

When the feature becomes available, users will be greeted with the following description: “Assistant can now summarize your messages. These summaries will be generated by artificial intelligence, so it is possible that there will be errors. You can disable this option at any time in Android Auto settings. Would you like to go ahead and ask Assistant to summarize your busy conversations?” We will appreciate the honesty of Google, which recognizes that AI-generated summaries may contain some errors.
