This Saturday, November 5, Google is blowing out 15 Android candles. The most popular mobile operating system on the market has grown at a steady rate, with Apple’s iOS also gaining ground, so that today the two giants share almost the entire smartphone market, with Android accounting for almost 72% of the sector and iOS almost 28%. It should be remembered that, in their early days, they had to deal with names that those under 20 may not know, such as Symbian, BlackBerry OS or even Bada.
Available in its version 13 since the beginning of autumn, Android represents, indicated Sundar Pichai during the last I/O conference last May, some 3 billion active terminals, at least during the month preceding the event. He then specified that a billion devices had been put into circulation in the space of a year. These figures hide again and again a fragmentation of the versions of the system still largely visible. Last August, i.e. just before the launch of Android 13, Google noted that only 13.3% of devices were running Android 12, then one year old, and 27% were running its older version. Android 11. Suffice to say that, despite its launch in October with the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro signed Google, Android 13 will take many months before imposing itself on a majority of terminals. Only a few devices are already up to date, including the Samsung Galaxy S22 or the OnePlus 10 Pro.

Android connoisseurs know that the operating system has responded since its 1.5 version (launched in 2009!) to names of sweet treats, starting with the very greedy Cupcake, Donut and Eclair. The pace of updates operated by Google has gradually stabilized, with a major version now being deployed every year. But do you know the little secrets of this operating system co-created by Andy Rubin and acquired in 2005 by Google? We have concocted a quiz for you, in video, to test with us your knowledge of the Bugdroid OS.
