Android smartphones more reliable than iPhones? This study proclaims it loud and clear


A recent analysis highlights a surprising trend in the world of smartphone repair: Android devices have a lower repair rate than iPhones, calling into question the general perception of their durability.

The act of repairing your smartphone yourself turns out to be a rewarding life hack, capable of generate savings while protecting our planet. Despite the abundance of repair guides available online, the volume of small electronic waste rose to 24.5 million tonnes in 2022, equivalent to four times the weight of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

To address this issue, Apple began a standalone repair program for iPhone, followed by Google with genuine parts for Pixel. Samsung then launched a similar program for Galaxy and some laptops. Electronics Hub has therefore monitored and recently published data on these repair habitsbased on information from iFixit.

Android smartphones require fewer repairs than iPhones, study finds

THE data collected by Electronics Hub, based on information from iFixit, reveals some intriguing figures about consumers’ smartphone repair habits. Apple stands out as the most repaired brandwith an impressive total of 17,511,792 consultations of pages on iFixit. In particular, the model iPhone 4 of 2010 is positioned at the top, with 5,192,539 repairs recorded.

In contrast, the Samsung Galaxy S III of 2012 stands out as the model Most repaired Android, with 972,558 repairs, a figure significantly lower than that of the most repaired iPhone models. This difference marks a notable trend in repair habits, where Android smartphones, although in need of repair, seem less often be the subject of searches for repair guides compared to their Apple counterparts.

It is also interesting to note that, among the smartphone models released since 2022, theiPhone 14 Pro Max dominates with 111,453 repairs, illustrating the continuity of the repair trend Apple devices even among the models the most recent. In comparison, figures for newer Android models are not specifically mentioned, which could suggest a relative reduction in repair needs or greater difficulty in carrying out these repairs by users themselves.
