Android: soon a widget for digital well-being… because you spend too much time on your smartphone

At a time when the French spend more than 3.5 hours on average on their mobile, Google offers an Android widget that allows you to control your screen time. The feature, based on the Digital Wellbeing app downloaded over 500,000 times, suggests you pause and pay attention to the real world.

The features that make the app successful (distraction-free mode) will be accessible from the widget. It doesn’t have a release date yet.

A compact widget and magnifying circles

It is certain that the health crisis has had a considerable effect on the increase in our screen time. Before 2020, the French spent an average of 2 hours on their laptop, and this figure exploded to 3:30 in the second quarter of 2020. In the world after, we had our eyes glued to our Facebook scrolls and our games of candy Crush
, hence the growing popularity of screen time management apps.

The widget offered by Digital Wellbeing, a division of Google, does not pretend to reinvent the powder. Among its innovations, magnifying circles allow you to categorize the most used applications and analyze their use. A 2×2 format allows you to include the widget on the home page of your smartphone, although you can enlarge it as you wish.

The Digital Wellbeing app has been downloaded more than half a million times, but recent user feedback reported welcome updates, including the “ distraction-free mode » or night mode, which makes the screen black and white at times when it seems good to you to pick up the smartphone.
