  • Android 11 revokes permissions for apps that have not been used for a long time.
  • This is to protect your data.
  • Now the function is also finding its way to cell phones with older versions of Android.

Google introduced a new feature a while back with Android 11: automatic reset of access permissions. This will remove access to important features and data for apps you don’t use after a few months. This must then only be allowed again by you when you use it. This should protect your personal data better and not share it with others unnecessarily.

Feature now also available on older devices

The importance of this function has now been made clear once again, as Google is now enabling it for older versions of Android as well. In December 2021, the group first announced this plan, surprising the fans. Unfortunately, the release has been delayed a bit and now it should finally be ready.

In the meantime, several Users with older versions of Android on Twitter written that the feature has been unlocked for them. This can be activated and used via Play Protect. An option called “Access Permissions for Unused Apps” will appear there.

You can also see a list of unused apps that no longer have permissions. It also shows which apps have the function activated and which don’t.

As is usual with Android, the innovation is now coming in waves and more and more reports of the new feature. If you already have the option to activate the feature, you should definitely do so to protect your data.
