Angela Merkel: Chancellor addresses the people with a TV address

Chancellor Angela Merkel (65) will step in front of the TV camera on Wednesday. As reported by the ZDF, among other things, the CDU politician is planning a direct address to the citizens of Germany in times of the coronavirus pandemic. In it, she wanted to inform about the current state of affairs and point out the applicable precautionary measures. According to the "Süddeutsche Zeitung", the head of government will not announce any further restrictions on public life.

It is the first time in Merkel's term of office that – apart from her annual New Year's address – she personally addresses the people via TV broadcast. As the "SZ" reports, the Chancellor's speech will be recorded in the late afternoon. It is broadcast after the main news programs from ZDF (around 7:25 p.m.) and ARD (around 8:15 p.m.).
