Chancellor Angela Merkel is nominated for the "Golden Blogger" award – although she does not actually run a blog.

On April 26th, the "Golden Blogger" will be awarded for the 14th time and who will be Germany's blogger of the year. And Chancellor Angela Merkel (66) can also hope for an award – in the "Best Blogger Without Blog" category.

"Although the Chancellor herself is only active online through her videocast, her tone and personality had a considerable influence on the public discourse on the Internet. We will therefore see many Merkel memes long after her term of office," explains Thomas Knüwer, member of the jury and Digital consultant making the decision in a communication.

Special price for Drosten, Ciesek and "Mailab"

The "Golden Blogger" prizes are awarded in a total of 16 categories. The shortlist of nominees, which was generated from around 2,000 suggestions from users, includes established digital projects as well as newcomers and well-known personalities who have achieved fame outside of the internet. For example, presenter Kai Pflaume (53), who is nominated for his YouTube channel "Ehrenpflaume". Or the entertainers Joko Winterscheidt (42) and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf (37), who could be honored for their "15 minutes" format.

The NDR “Coronavirus Update” podcast, which made virologists Christian Drosten (48) and Sandra Ciesek (43) famous, and the science journalist Mai Nguyen-Kim (33) for her YouTube channel “Mailab” received a special prize. In the top category "Blogger of the Year", the feminist journalist Teresa Bücker (37, "Pandemic and Gender") meets the science journalist Lars Fischer (* 1976) and the sports author and podcaster Max-Jacob Ost.

The prizes will be awarded on April 26th during an online gala in Bonn. The show will be broadcast live on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and on the homepage of the "Golden Blogger".
