Angela Merkel traveled to France at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, 43, and spent the day with her old confidante in Beaune. But the Chancellor certainly did not expect the exuberantly enthusiastic welcome from the French.

When she arrived, a huge crowd turned up to see the Chancellor. The many cheers and gifts seem to almost overwhelm Merkel, but at the same time to move them very much.
