With the option of video conferences, Angela Merkel would not have to make every trip. Nevertheless, she lacks getting to know people.

Chancellor Angela Merkel (66) was at the 3rd Ecumenical Church Congress Part of the podium “The future is only possible together: Why climate protection needs all generations”. Among other things, she spoke about the fact that everyone has to change their lifestyle in order to protect the climate. She did not exclude herself: “It may be that the pandemic has taught us something that will bring about a change in behavior,” she said. In her job as Federal Chancellor, the 66-year-old has had to travel a lot so far. “Politically, I have seen that I certainly don’t have to make every trip, but that there is also a lot to discuss via video conferences,” she said.

“This enables us to save considerable resources, especially in the area of mobility,” said Merkel. However, this does not mean “that I never want to meet people again,” admitted the Chancellor. “I already miss that.” The 3rd Ecumenical Church Congress from May 13 to 16 in Frankfurt am Main will take place largely digitally due to the corona pandemic.
