Angelina Jolie and daughter Shiloh are currently in Cambodia. Here the soul of the actress can rest, as Jolie reveals on Instagram.

Angelina Jolie, 46, has close ties to Cambodia. “Here in this country I had this moment where I realized: I want to be a mother, and I want to have a kind of Cambodian family,” the actress said in a 2015 interview. And she did it. Jolie adopted her eldest son Maddox, 20, in Cambodia in 2002, his siblings Zahara, 17, in Ethiopia in 2005 and Pax, 18, in Vietnam two years later. Daughter Shiloh, 15, was born in 2006, and twins Vivienne and Knox, both 13, saw the light of day in 2008.

Angelina Jolie: In Cambodia, she changed her perspective

In 2001, Angelina Jolie shot the action film “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” in Cambodia, with which she celebrated her breakthrough. But that’s not the reason why she has so much in common with the country in Southeast Asia. “I wasn’t proud of myself and my life back then,” Jolie said. “Here I learned so much about life, here I realized that I have to change my perspective.”

And whenever she’s in Cambodia, she feels grounded, Angelia Jolie reveals in a new Instagram post. Regarding a rare private photo showing her with daughter Shiloh and two other photos, the 46-year-old writes: “A few days in Cambodia among the warm locals and I feel my soul recovering. For me and our family, this has always been a special country.” Mother and daughter look relaxed in the snapshot and seem to be having a great time.

The actress continued, “I’m excited to reunite with friends and colleagues at the MJP Foundation in Samlot district. The fully indigenous team runs health, education and conservation programs. I’ve spent some time with rangers to work with to talk to them about land grabs, poaching and mapping patrol routes.”

The actress has honorary citizenship

After adopting Maddox, Angelina Jolie became an ambassador for the UN refugee agency UNHCR. She then bought a house near Maddox’s birthplace of Battambang and over 60,000 hectares of land, which she declared a nature reserve. In the years that followed, she helped numerous charities and founded the Maddox Jolie Pitt Foundation for Environmental Protection. In 2005 she received honorary citizenship of Cambodia for her commitment.
