BARCELONA (Agefi-Dow Jones)–Anglo American will partner with Envusa Energy, a subsidiary of EDF, to develop renewable energy in South Africa, the mining group announced on Tuesday.
As part of the agreement between the two groups, Envusa will launch a set of wind and solar projects with a total output of more than 600 megawatts, the first stage in the development of an ecosystem that should generate 3 to 5 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030.
Construction is expected to begin in 2023.
“We believe that the energy transition is an opportunity for South Africa and the rest of the region to build a clean and inclusive energy ecosystem that will unlock significant economic opportunities,” commented Nolitha Fakude, Board Chair. of Anglo American in South Africa.
