Angoulême 2022 winners: Les Pires and Le Sixième enfant crowned, a highly acclaimed 15th edition

The 15th edition of the Angoulême film festival, which was held from August 23 to 28, is coming to an end. The jury chaired by André Dussollier renders its verdict.

An unmissable event for the return to cinema each year, the Angoulême festival continues to attract more and more curious people. It is enough to observe the impressive queues which invade the streets to realize it. Fifty-two thousand people answered the call, that’s 40% more than last year. From August 23 to 28, this 15th edition shone with its diversity and the revelation of new talents.

With more than fifty films screened, including 10 films in competition, the jury* chaired by André Dussollier has delivered its verdict. Les Pires by Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret is crowned with the Valois de Diamant, the highest distinction. Winner of the Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes last May, this social drama follows a film crew that sets up in a working-class neighborhood.

But the big winner of this edition is none other than Le Sixième enfant, the first feature film by Léopold Legrand. In total, the film received four awards: the Valois for music, the screenplay, the best actress and the public Valois. The film tells the “unthinkable arrangement” between an indebted family who fails to ensure the birth of a sixth child and a couple of lawyers who are trying to conceive one.

The other two award-winning films are the Moroccan drama Le Bleu du Caftan by Maryam Touzani – prize for best director and best actor – and the Quebec film Noémie dit oui by Geneviève Albert – special mention for its lead actress and the public’s Valois .

The Valois awarded by the jury are:
