Animal passion in the jungle: A legend of adventure cinema in a modern action blockbuster

An orphan raised by monkeys in the jungle – that’s all it takes to make you think of Tarzan – or at least of “George of the Jungle”. Tarzan is one of the most important characters in adventure literature and of course also a fixture in the world of film.

This is partly due to the popularity of the character, but also because the copyright to Tarzan has now expired in the USA, meaning film studios can make Tarzan films relatively cheaply – Peter Pan says hello! But in order not to have to tell the same story over and over again, not every film begins with Tarzan in the jungle.

“Legend of Tarzan” from 2016 jumps forward in time a little and shows us a Tarzan who has already been led out of the jungle and into British society. It may take some getting used to seeing the ape man in fine clothes, but the buttoned-up appearance of him and his great love Jane is deceptive.

In a sex scene that was often mentioned before the film’s release, the jungle dream couple was supposed to show their animalistic side. Ultimately, however, this scene was removed from the finished film, but we still get to see Tarzan in his classic, scantily clad Tarzan mode.

The plot of “Legend of Tarzan”

A lot has changed since Tarzan left his home in the jungle. He now lives happily with his wife Jane and as British nobleman John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke. One day, however, he has to return to the Congo because the English Parliament sends him on a mission.

What he doesn’t realize, however, is that the Belgian Leon Rom has a treacherous plan that is riddled with greed and revenge. When Jane becomes entangled in the intrigue, Tarzan must do everything he can to save his wife.

The cast of “Legend of Tarzan” is impressive! With Alexander Skarsgård, Margot Robbie and Christoph Waltz, the action adventure offers a top-class cast. Also starring are Hollywood stars Samuel L. Jackson and Jim Broadbent. The film also impresses with a lot of adventure, romance, natural landscapes and impressive digital animals.
