Animal video: Deaf dog loves to eat like a human

Bluenjy is deaf and a real connoisseur: In the video you can see why the dog prefers to keep his snacks in his paws in a mannered manner, as if he were human.

I beg your pardon? What is this dog doing?

"Bluenjy, the Frenchie" is a French bulldog with a very special talent: Instead of simply slurping his food out of a bowl like other dogs, Bluenjy would prefer to take his meal gently in his hand or in his paws.

What a remarkable habit. Why is he doing this?

That is a good question, there is no correct explanation for the good manners of the little gourmet. Its owner Sunny suspects that it may be related to the animal's deafness.

How did you get the idea?

When she took Bluenjy in, Sunny didn't know at first that her new dog was deaf. So she was very surprised when he kept trying to reach for her hands with his paws. At some point this impulse reminded her so much of a hungry baby that she spontaneously pressed a banana into his paws. Since then, she has known how to properly recognize her favorite food preferences. Her guess is that Bluenjy wants to feel his other senses more strongly through the loss of his hearing – especially the sense of touch combined with the sense of taste. Of course, this is not medically confirmed – and actually doesn't matter. Bluenjy loves his finger food, and that makes for amazing moments.

What's going on in Bluenjy's everyday life?

Sunny's husband Evan now loves to eat the same snack together with his dog – and likes to show it on Instagram. Almost 200,000 followers are already tracking how artfully the dog easily cleans even complex foods. Current highlight: delicacies from the Asian snack bar that Bluenjy can easily eat with chopsticks. In the comments, some parents among the Bluenjy fans are almost jealous – because their own children do not eat as well as this very special French Bulldog.
