It’s rare that I can connect my smartphone to a Bluetooth device and listen to music from any room in the house. The Anker Soundcore Motion X500 speaker makes this not only simple but also satisfying to do.

As soon as I unboxed this big little beast, I connected it to my smartphone, I launched Spotify, I put on the album “Signals” by Rush. I placed the speaker in the central room of the house and walked around each room to see if the sound was traveling well. I only set the audio level on my phone to about 60% and I could clearly hear the music in all rooms, both on the first and second floors.
It’s impressive. But the service doesn’t stop there. Of course, before talking about my experience, here is an update on the specifications of this product.

My experience with the Anker Soundcore Motion X500 speaker
The first impression I had with the Motion X500 was that it produced a surprisingly loud volume. This thing can be loud! But what about the sound quality?
Coming out of the box, I wasn’t impressed with the three different presets. This is of course because I am very particular about the EQ I prefer. The good news is that all I had to do was install the Soundcore app (Android/iOS) and dive into customizing the EQ to make it meet my needs. Once that was done, the X500 turned out to be nothing short of fantastic! The sound was deep, rich: surprisingly impressive for a Bluetooth speaker.
After finishing “Signals” by Rush, I put on “The Completion Backward Principle” by The Tube: all the highs and lows I had become accustomed to from listening to the album on vinyl were there. So, no, it’s not as warm, it’s digital sound, so you’ll never get the same sound as you would with vinyl.
Next comes the incomparable singer Kate Bush. Lately I’ve been obsessed with “And Dream of Sheep” and the X500 speaker delivered his voice with the depth and breadth it deserves. I could close my eyes and feel like the artist was standing right next to me singing one of the most heartbreaking and beautiful songs she had ever composed.
Finally, I went a little further with Spiritbox’s latest EP, “The Fear of Fear”, and the speaker had all the punch needed to render the song as it was intended to be. No bar was handled poorly (which can happen with the metalcore genre) and Courtney LaPlante’s voice was beautiful when she sang and fierce when she screamed… the Soundcore Motion X500 handled the aspects of her vocals with confidence.
No matter what song or genre I put through this speaker, it impressed me. And with the EQ’s easy customization, I was able to make even the smallest adjustments needed.

At $140, it’s hard to find a more impressive portable Bluetooth speaker.
It has the punch, depth and quality of a portable speaker twice the price.
