Ann-Kathrin Götze: Positive pregnancy test was a "shock"

Mario Götze (27) and his wife Ann-Kathrin (30) are looking forward to the first offspring together. The couple made the happy announcement public at the end of March, when the mother-to-be was already seven months pregnant. The shock, as she now said in a YouTube video, first had to be digested. The two of them would not have expected the sweet surprise themselves so early.

Stunned tears of joy followed

A child was planned, but so quickly? "We thought more that it wouldn't work until 2020," said the 30-year-old in retrospect. After the Mallorca wedding in June 2019, the two would have given up contraception. The first signs then appeared in October of the same year. Ann-Kathrin Götze, who claims to be a "morning person", did not feel sick, but always felt tired in the morning hours. "I thought something was wrong with my body," she said.

So she did a pregnancy test – alone in the bathroom at home. Minutes later, she experienced a real "shock moment". "I just thought: Seriously, that's already happening now?" When she finally showed the test to football professional Mario Götze, it was "just as stunned". "I was sitting on his lap and we were both crying for ten minutes," the 30-year-old recalled.

Baby party is planned

Hiding the growing baby bump was not difficult, according to Ann-Kathrin Götze. She and her husband Mario wanted to keep the pregnancy to themselves in order to have their own experiences with it. Simply enjoy your time as an expectant parent without any outside comments or advice. In June, they want to reveal to friends – and then probably fans and followers – the gender of the baby.
