In 1991, Anna Chlumsky became a child star alongside Macaulay Culkin with “My Girl.” The role haunts the 41-year-old actress to this day.

In 1991, Anna Chlumsky (41) enchanted an entire generation in “My Girl”. Her famous kiss with Macaulay Culkin (41) won Best Kiss in Movie at the MTV Movie Awards. The former child star has now become a busy actress. From February 11th she can be seen in the new Netflix series “Inventing Anna”. Nevertheless, the 41-year-old is still reduced to her role in “My Girl”. Chlumsky talked about this once again in one go big interview with the fashion magazine “Elle”.

When asked if she’s tired of still being asked about that one movie, the actress responded with a counter-question: “Aren’t you tired of talking about something you did when you were ten?” Even after 30+ years, people still seem to think she owes them, Chlumsky said. “It’s really strange”.

Hollywood exit at the age of 18

Unlike her — even better known — “My Girl” co-star Culkin, Chlumsky isn’t one of those former child stars who’s been thrown off course after her early fame. Nevertheless, she speaks of a “trauma” that she worked through through therapy.

When roles stopped coming as she got older, Anna Chlumsky turned her back on the film business. She studied International Relations in Chicago and then worked, among other things, in a survey company and as a restaurant critic.

Fortune teller puts her back in business

An encounter with a fortune teller finally made Chlumsky change his mind. The psychic spoke to the ex-actress on the street – of course on “My Girl”. Chlumsky was annoyed, but the fortune teller said, referring to the acting, “You’re not done yet. You want to move on.”

The former child star took acting classes and worked his way back into the business starting in 2005 with roles in TV series and indie films. Her most famous series is “Veep – The Vice President”. She received multiple Emmy nominations for her supporting role in the political comedy.

From February 11, 2022, she will play a journalist in “Inventing Anna” who exposes Anna Sorokin (31) as an imposter. Successful TV maker and “Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes (52) filmed the true story of con artist Anna Delvey who fooled New York’s high society.
