Vogue boss Anna Wintour is planning a London version of the Met Gala. The event aims to benefit the London art scene.

A kind of “Met Gala 2.0” will soon take place in London – an extravagant philanthropic art event, also organized by “Vogue” boss Anna Wintour (73). The ‘Vogue World’ event is set to take place at the Theater Royal Drury Lane in London’s West End on September 14, ahead of London Fashion Week, with a red carpet, fashion show and live performances, is it[called. The event is intended to pay tribute to British creative minds – “from Shakespeare to Stormzy”.

The event is supported by celebrities such as model Naomi Campbell (53), rapper Stormzy (29) and actress Michaela Coel (35), who was also the patron of this year’s New York Met Gala. London Mayor Sadiq Khan (52), fashion designer Victoria Beckham (49) and acting legend Sir Ian McKellen (84) are also said to be there.

“Vogue” has already published some pictures as a foretaste of what to see: Naomi Campbell with dancers from the Royal Opera House and the Royal Ballet, Sir Ian McKellen hand in hand with three British models as well as Victoria Beckham, Sadiq Khan and TikTok star Khaby Lame (23) on the bus with the National Health Service (NHS) choir.

Tickets should be available to everyone

Unlike the Met Gala, the London event will not only be open to celebrities and the super-rich: According to The Guardian The tickets cost from 150 British pounds (around 175 euros) and are even free for students. “We want to try to make it as inviting as possible,” the newspaper quoted Anna Wintour as saying. The proceeds from the event are intended to help the suffering art scene in the British capital.

The Vogue boss came up with the idea after learning “with horror” about budget cuts in the performing arts sector last November. “The creative talent in London is unparalleled so we will do everything we can to support these brilliant people,” said the 73-year-old. Philanthropy is not “the only solution – but it is a solution, definitely”.

In September 2022, a similar event took place in New York’s Meatpacking District. According to the London version, it is scheduled to take place in another European city, probably Milan or Paris, in 2024. Then it should move on to Asia.
