“The Assembly should normally be a form of checks and balances. This legislative election should be the election that attracts the most people to vote since we should be more in contact with a deputy than with a president. But it’s the opposite“, observed the son of the mayor of Paris before continuing: “This raises a real question: if the representatives of the people become representatives of the parties – and I can say it, I have a father who was a deputy, I know very well that today, the deputies do not represent the people, even if they want to (…) – it really poses a problem“.
