Anne Hidalgo has just posted on X.com a long message in which she bids a bitter farewell to the platform.

Criticism of social networks has become a national sport, especially when it comes to the platform of all politicians, namely X (formerly Twitter). Some voices do not stop at words, and seek to set up a boycott of this interface. On October 27, we were treated to the launch of a #NoTwitterDay, which was not very effective. And today, a new stage has passed, since some personalities decide to leave permanently!

Anne Hidalgo says stop

Is this an isolated initiative, or the start of a trend? The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, announced at the start of the week that she was definitively leaving vast global sewer. »

It calls into question the mode of operation of the network, which would have gone to waste. “ Today, controversies, rumors and crude manipulations dictate public debate, propelled by the Twitter algorithm, where only the number of “Likes” counts. What do the facts matter? » she was able to describe.

I refuse to support this disastrous design » she adds, ending up declaring that she was leaving this platform where she had been present since 2009, and where she had more than 1.5 million subscribers.

The Bluesky alternative

The fact remains that, obviously, as a public figure, she cannot ignore a presence on social networks. Anne Hidalgo continues to be available on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn. However, it is not certain that she does not find there the types of discourse that she criticized on X.

Facebook, for example, may have been singled out in the past for foreign interference campaigns deployed there, or for the disinformation on climate change available there. Is this why the politician also registered on Bluesky? Does she hope to find in Jack Dorsey’s new decentralized platform the haven of peace for discussion that she seems to be looking for so much?
